New Class!

This intermediate level class is a logical "next step" for those who've taken our Essentials class. In this class, you'll apply most of Photoshop's layer functions (Layer Masks, Adjustment Layers, Blending Modes, Clipping Masks, and Opacity)—as well as other features—to create original or composite images and your own images from scratch.

who should take this class?

  • Photographers forging or reforging an image
  • Designers combining images, textures, and color
  • Photographers or Illustrators perfecting their photoillustration and digital skills

what we cover

(always customized for the students in attendance):

isolate even the most complex portions of images
  • methods for separating wispy subjects from their backgrounds (hair, vegetation, etc.)
  • borrowing from film-makers: chromakey and similar techniques
Use Layer Masks to hide image areas or to bring them back. No more erasure!
  • creating, massaging and combining masks like a pro
  • vector vs raster masks
Create seamless gradient and texturing effects
  • map color to image tone
  • simulate alternative photographic processes
  • add "film grain" and other effects
Allow images to blend creatively and predictably
  • the amazing power of blending modes
  • hidden masking techniques
  • mask and blend contextually and automatically
Use Smart Objects
  • resize and transform elements without fear
  • "merge" layers nondestructively
  • apply filters re-editably
Master Layer Styles/Effects
  • not just drop shadows!
  • add dimension and depth
  • texturize layers
  • simulate various materials
