Class Description

special workshop

Transformation

This workshop is for artists who want to make images that reveal their imagination, passion and vision.

Accessing ideas, planning visual projects and learning essential power tools in Photoshop will be our focus. With projected demonstrations and inspiration from a collection of artists' images, we will review creative ways to tell stories, interpret dreams, execute assignments and explore personal invention through digital art. Composition, symbolism, emotion and message will be themes we address as a group.

Then, using Photoshop's powerful layers, masks, selection and adjustment tools, you will see how to prepare elements, compose the frame, merge images, create depth and alter pictorial perception. Bring along any materials and digital projects you want to share, discuss, explore or refine. Participants will receive a CD to increase their learning beyond the workshop. This workshop is designed for intermediate and advanced level participants familiar with Photoshop's basic tools, layers, and selection methods. Whether you are a dabbler or a working professional, you will find this workshop uniquely rewarding.

This workshop includes:

  • projected slideshows of global artists' images
  • review of essential Photoshop power tools
  • projected technique and workflow demonstrations
  • generating ideas from actual input or divine accident
  • image composition for single capture and multi-image artworks
  • using symbolism for power, emotion and message
  • how to create and prepare image elements
  • merging multiple images for montage
  • creating depth, realism, surrealism

About the Instructor

your instructor, David Julian

David Julian holds a BFA from Pratt Institute, and is a widely-published photographer, illustrator and mixed-media artist. Over the past 23 years, he has created art for for nationwide clients of every genre as well as international galleries and private collectors. Using traditional and digital processes interchangeably, he is always pushing the creative edge in his work. His studies in the sciences influence his artistic expression, blending the subtle beauty of the natural world with his vivid imagination. David's teaching method blends technical processes with pure artistic vision. He has a patient, intuitive teaching manner, and enjoys helping others develop the ability to reach their creative goals. When not immersed in his studio filled with evidence of madness, passion and joy, he travels, kayaks and teaches workshops throughout the continent.
